It's a 1964 Porsche 911 clay mock-up

Still called 901 at that time.

Exactly!
I thought the production 911 was already out by 1964?

Here are more pictures of it:

Something in between I guess. Porsche changed from 901 to 911 in 1964, but don't know the exact day..

This car was designed by Graf Albrecht Goertz of BMW 507 fame. According to one of my books it dates from 1957 (!) which is possibly much more reliable.
It is also not correct to call it a 901 model. It was supposed to be a 356 successor, but the designation "901" wasn't born back then.

OK, thanks.  I'll change the heading.
But I'm not convinced 1957 is correct either; twin-headlights on a European car in 1957?  Hmmm..
I'm sure 1964 isn't right, as the new 911 was already out and seen by then, so it must be a much earlier proposal.  Possibly it's been lost in translation; maybe they meant to say it was an early proposal for what eventually turned out to be the 1964 911..?

I think 1957 is correct, though I have to rely on that book only.
