1968 Caldwell D8 Formula A car built by Ray Caldwell's company Autodynamics in the USA.
Formula A was the North American version of the British Formula 5000 racing series using an F1 type chassis with a production car based iron block V8 engine (in this car a 302 cu in (5 litre)Chevrolet to save costs over F1.
That Caldwell was their only Formula A car, it was driven by journalist Sam Posey.

The perfect answer.Caldwell were better known for their CanAm cars. I suppose it was always going to be a Canadian who would solve this one! One very quick point.
My friend and I restored and raced a Lola T142 Formula A back in the mid to late 90's so I remember these cars quite well.
