Obviously super charged ........ european?

targhediferro

Yes...a little clue; the car is quite obscure, but the engine that it uses and that in this car is supercharged, comes from a car built in thousands of pieces.

targhediferro

Another picture, because the previous one is perhaps too obscure.

Is this a pre-war Allard?

targhediferro

Not Allard...and not pre-war.

targhediferro

Up....and from tomorrow Prof.

The engine is small (Not American) - is it a Ford 1172cc ?
I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia

Sorry for the late reply, I haven't seen your guess....Not a Dellow

nicanary

This is intriguing. The supercharger is, I think, a Wade - Dellow were agents for Wade but you say it is not one of them. It appears very well made, with wings built into the bodywork (not cycle-type wings) and a fully-stocked dash and interior furnishings. So it's unlikely to have been made for trials work alone.

It's not a Paramount, because there are cut-away doors and a single pane screen. Is it a Buckler?

Is this car the small Leidart?  They built one for press photos, but I believe no more were made.

I think its an Italian S.C.O.T. Italmechannica supercharger.

I havent got a clue what the car is, been through all of my ideas and got nowheres.

Guessing its a one off at this point.

The supercharger was a Marshall derived from Rootes. Not a proper one-off, but the number of car produced was very little.

Thank you for your clue. You're right, this car is obscure. I thought I knew a bit about 1950s British cars, but this one is new to me.

After much investigation, I have found your puzzle images. The car is a Nordec from 1949, built by the North Downs Engineering Co in Whyteleaf, Surrey. They had obtained sole rights to Marshall superchargers and Ballamy i.f.s. and decided to build their own car to promote these products. This car is the prototype, and was shown to "The Autocar" and described in their issue of 25 March 1949. It used a stretched Ford 8hp chassis, with the s/c Ford 10hp engine. The photo clearly shows the remote gear linkage required.

The magazine were told that the production models would be lower and more sporting, but I reckon they never made any. Georgano mentions the car, but does not give production figures.

Well done, Nordec (North Dawn Engineering Co.) 1949
