For one point, please respond and identify this car.

Can't find it on my usual site. I'm guessing it's German - BMW base ?
German, but not BMW based
DKW engine ?
Closely related
It's not a good photo, but that's part of the fun with Autopuzzles. I can't think what it is, and research into Wartburg and IFA has not given me an answer.
It looks 1950-55 , so it's not Auto-Union. It has vague similarities to an IFA F9 coupe from 1954, and I wonder if it an early version of this, later converted to a coupe ?
You are getting very close. It is an IFA F 9 racer.
You are in the right timespan. 1954 is too late though.
The photo is not good, and there is a reason for it.
Locked for you to dig a little deeper.
Helmut Richter's "eigenbau" ?
Helmut Richter was one of the drivers. Tell me the year, then you'll obtain the point.
My source says that other drivers were Erich Hofmokel and Erich Hochmogel (surely the same man ?) - is the year 1950?
Yes, 1950 is correct. I think the name of the second driver was Erich Hofmogel, but I have to look it up.
The car was designed and built by the "Arbeitsgruppe Chemnitz", a team of racing enthusiasts at the former Wanderer factory. Although it was an Eigenbau and not factory-built, the IFA combinate used it, slightly retouched, in an advertisement where I took the picture from.
One more point for you.
No wonder I couldn't find it on my usual sites ! They changed the appearance for the ad.
A better look on the puzzle picture ad:

You are right, the real car looked like this:
