Time for a beautiful custom car!

Who built this, what did he call it, and what was it based upon?

Zerk

From the great nation of Australia?

sixtee5cuda

Not from Australia.  Not even warm

This is the "Venom Capri" built by Ian Etheridge around 1977.
Etheridge also built the "Celestial" Trans Am a couple years later.

It was actually built in England by a fellow called Ian Etheridge.

He called it Venom and it was based on a 1974 Ford Capri.

I actually remember seeing that car at the Custom Car show at Alexandria Palace in 1977.

Looks like I was 1 sec too slow with my reply!

And the point goes to Bubenator, for the first posting of the correct answer.  Strange, bub also got the point for my puzzle # 148, Ian Etheridge's Celestial.

Should I admit that I recognized the picture from my previous research on the Celestial?    ::)

They are pretty hard cars to forget!

People look at them now must wonder what was going on in England in the mid to late 70's, we seemed to embrace the American Kustom Kar Kulture wholeheartedly , and guys like Ian Etheridge had the skill and money to go right over the top!

His Trans Am with the fin on the trunk was even more bizzare (as you know), I think it may even  have been a 455 SD originally.

My car at the time was nowheres near as radical (probably due to my extreme lack of money at the time) , and I wouldnt dream of going as berserk on any of my current cars. ;D
