What name was this vehicle given, what are those round things on the ground, and who is the smart-looking gentleman wearing shades?

This is Walt Arfons' Wingfoot Express, the guy is Alex Tremulis and the bottles are so called Jato rockets. Quite impressive machine...

Another point for Mekubb for the correct answer.

(This car is normally called Wingfoot Express 2, as the first version was powered by a jet engine.)

That small image was the only one I could find, which included Alex Tremulis.

Looks like him.  Kool photo.  The "swale" in the mountains in the background is a Bonneville landscape feature that's immediately recognizable.  Seems like everybody who does a photo shoot there ends up with that in the background.
