Here is something a little different - a variation on previous parts puzzles. In this case, you'll see sprues that came in various plastic model car kits. In order to win a point (one per pic) you must identify the kit from which it came, and what the finished model was meant to represent.
The rules are thus: No points for naming one of the full-size vehicle a kit represented - many are quite easy. The points will be awarded for identifying the kit maker and the car the kit represented. I suspect some of you may have one or more of these kits in your own collections. While some of these kits may be obscure, and their makers long out-of-business, there are no insider-only "you have to have the book" requirements. Patience and good detective work is all that is required to find the solution to all of these. The answers are all available to the general public.
Here they are - enjoy!

This is a very twisty puzzle, but...
Is #4 an AMT 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T?
-
It is a Dodge Challenger, but not the one you guessed
-
Perhaps #4 is the AMT/ERTL "Street Machines" kit? That sprue just doesn't look like Revell to me.
-
No sir
-
Another great puzzle idea. ;D
Impossible to solve for me, just hated those scale model kits, :hyper: too much patience needed!
And they NEVER looked as good as on the packages. :-[
-
I'm a rotten model builder, but the cool box art and the look of the parts in an unbuilt kit suck me back into buying another one every year or so.
-
My common downfall was getting model cement on the clear plastic windshield or other 'glass'.

I can't begin to count the number of models I built, both as a kid and at 2 separate periods in my adult life. I still have several dozen kits and a ton of resin-cast and etched metal aftermarket parts.
So:
#1 AMT 1951 Chevy BelAir Kit # 6607 (although it could be one of several other kits numbers.)
#7 Monogram 32 Ford Street Roadster, Kit# MIB FS.

#1 AMT 1951 Chevy BelAir Kit # 6607 (although it could be one of several other kits numbers.)
Yes!
-
#7 Monogram 32 Ford Street Roadster, Kit# MIB FS.
No

#7 Monogram 32 Ford Street Roadster, Kit# MIB FS.
No
Yeah...I knew that one was iffy. I should have known that it wouldn't have been the Monogram kit cuz that one is 1/24th scale, and I was looking for a 1/25th kit. So I did some digging and found one that I'd built. I did a quick setup on my lightbox and fired off a few photos with my Canon 40D. This is one of 'em:

Then I searched and searched and couldn't find it on the web, so I dug into my old model kit instruction stash and found that the base kit for that model was a Revell "McDonald's Diorama & 32 Ford Street Rod" kit. Kit number on that one is #85-7804. I don't know if there are other variants of this kit, but it's a real basic one. The frame is molded along with the fenders and floor pan and the front axle has tube shocks molded with it and other simplifications have been made; as a result, it's a cheapie. But I think mine turned out acceptably well as a static model.

I think #2 is a 1969 Ford (Torino) Cobra AMT 2 in 1 kit...
It is an AMT Torino Cobra kit, but not a 2-in-1. Locked for you.

Oh, according to the box it's a 3-in-1...Stock, custom, or NASCAR.
They changed the box later on too...

That's it

These sprues are through. Black hole, and adieu
-
I have some new group puzzles queued up, but I really think we need to close these older ones out.
I'm offering twice the regular points for solutions that are posted in this thread before 12:00 AM Monday, Eastern Standard Time.
-
#1 AMT 1951 Chevy Fleetline
Scratch that one. I need to find the unsolved ones, I guess.
-
I found #4 on a forum where people discuss kits they are building, and I've been back there and found that #6 was there too, but I completely missed it because I was looking for something else.
This one is a bit confusing. It seems to be an AMT kit, but also has MPC on the box. I think they are both now part of the same company.
Also the car is just referred to as "Can Am" on the box, but it seems that it is actually a model of the Howmet TX MkII. The Howmet TX was an attempt in 1968 to produce a gas turbine powered sports racing car. Two cars were made with enclosed bodies. The second of these was rolled during the 1968 Le Mans race, and was subsequently rebodied as an open top roadster. That's this kit, though the car has subsequently been restored back to its original form.
I don't know if the open version was ever raced, but it was used to set some FIA speed records in 1970.
I haven't found any pictures of the actual car in this form, only the model.

Colombo strikes again!
And then there were two...
-
I think there's only one. Ray identified #1 in reply #10. Just the elusive Volkswagen left.
Is #8 a Japanese kit?
-
You're right on both counts.
-
#8: Hasegawa HC-3 1967 VW?
-
#8: Hasegawa HC-3 1967 VW?
No
-
I'd like nothing more than to award some points and close out another old puzzle. ;)
-
Just #8 left, and having revisited this puzzle again, I can't believe I missed this before. I've looked at this kit a number of times, but never managed to match the sprue before, and I convinced myself it wasn't the right one.
But having found some different pictures, it seems that it's Tamiya 1:24 kit 24136, Volkswagen 1300 Beetle, 1966 model.

Yay!
