It looks like a 1940 Mercury sport custom by Darrin.

While it does have a certain "Darrin" Look to it, this 1939/40 Mercury is actually the first vehicle custom built by California's Coachcraft. It was built for Hollywood socialite Paul Planette.

Yes, my source calls it a 1939 Mercury Derby by Coachcraft. A point for you !
