I guess it measures the pressure imposed by a driver on each area of his seat in relation to the angle of the backrest and other parts of the seat. Was this done to find the best driving position with respects to health and ergonomy?

That may have been the year your photo was published, but the original photo includes evidence to the contrary. Different girl, too.

the device is called a "Seater Meeter". No joke. The original photo was testing a 1936 Oldsmobile seat. I don't know what year the seat the second photo is testing, it may be the same seat.
