Quick expert point
Lotus Mk 3?
Built by ACBC and friends
its the v8 Ford engined special built on an Austin Chassis , in which its driver/buildr Joe Quinn was killed while racing at the Curragh in 1954 ,
left out the name of the car, S.A.M , SPECIAL AUSTIN MERCURY .
That's it.
Good to see you back here, Shamrock!
That looks like a recent photo with Mike Holt, who restored it three or four years ago, at the wheel. He is trying to sell it and if someone's interested I can forward details ;D
I found the car originally though a sellers newsletter. :)
Please tell me the year and name of this car, who built it, and what powered it.

Not from the UK, but it does have parts of the chassis from a UK manufacturer.
Plenty of info on the internet, if you know where to look! :)
Chassis from a Austin 7?

Chassis from a Austin 7?
You have asked me a question I can't answer. There are parts of an Austin in the chassis, so you have that part correct, but I don't know which model of Austin provided those parts. You have solved part of the puzzle, but not enough to earn a lock.
Australian?

Australian?
No. A clue - I have been very pedantic with my replies as to the country of origin of this car. Can't say any more......
"Not from the UK ..." Pedantically. Is it from the Channel Islands?

No. But you've got the idea. Not a million miles from the UK.....
Isle of Man?
Ireland?

Sorry Majeko, good guess but D-Type is correct. So now we know where the car came from. Tell me more.
Ford 10 engine?

Ford 10 engine?
Not a Ford 10hp, but the maker of the engine had a Ford connection.
Just a quick post from me about my pedantry - I said earlier in the puzzle that the car was not from the UK, but from Ireland. I have just reread my notes and, much to my embarassment, the car was "technically" from the UK. I stress the embarassment, because I live in Northern Ireland.
This website should stay away from politics, but I can tell you that the name of the builder and the city where it was built, suggest to me that the builder probably considered himself Irish rather than British. However, from a pedantic point of view, the country of origin is in the UK.
That's a big clue. The builder came from a place famous for "strokes" *.
*(It's quite possible that only myself and one of the site's editors will understand that little joke)
V8 powered?
Special Austin Mercury (S.A.M.) built by Joe Quinn , 1952 in Londonderry, Northern Ireland.
Mercury Flathead V8 Powered.
I believe the Austin parts are from an 1950's A40 Sommerset ( the wheels at least)
Saddened to read he was killed whilst driving his creation in a race, the car sounds like it is quite the beast!

Well done. You move ever closer to the twilight world of the Pros. You have said it all, really - the car was very competitive in racing all over Ireland, but sadly it was involved in a serious crash which resulted in the deaths of two bystanders, as well as the driver himself. It has recently been rebuilt and takes part in historic race meetings.
(There is a good racing history of the car on the web, but the new owner hoped it would be eligible for international meetings because he thought it had raced in the 1953 Tourist Trophy - alas, it was the '53 Ulster Trophy which it had taken part in, which I think was just a national status event.)
(PS - regarding the reference to strokes. The city of Londonderry was renamed Derry by its appointed leaders, but locals who considered themselves British rather than Irish insisted on still calling it by its old name. In order that no-one was insulted the media began to call the place Derry-stroke-Londonderry, shortened to Derry/Londonderry. The local well-known radio broadcaster Gerry Anderson hit on the ingenious idea of calling the place Stroke City, which caught the imagination of both Republicans and Loyalists alike. It is regularly referred to by that title by all manner of people living in the Province.)
