The driver's full name is not that - it's Robert Robertson-Shersbie-Harvie.

A splendid British name. I looked into this ready for the Pros time, but was at work when it was promoted. His name is spelt differently in various sources, and is incorrect in Georgano's motorsport encyclopedia. I got the correct version from the London Gazette - he was commissioned as an officer in the Royal Flying Corps in 1917.

(I have checked again - he joined the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve in 1917, and the RFC in 1918 - no doubt enthralled by the idea of flight, like so many young men of that conflict.)
I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia
