But it's clearly a British trials car - those seats would not be sufficient for a lengthy road journey.

Is it one of the Tucker-Peake cars?

I suspect I got lucky on this one - the name of the car suggests that it was built by 4 people with the initials T.E.S.T. Still, every point is welcome at the Pro level.

I've never seen that photo before, nor have I heard of the car. Many British enthusiasts built trials cars in the 40s and 50s of this type, usually Ford 1172 s/v powered, until Mike Cannon came along with his lightweight cars which were readily available and affordable.

By chance I've just seen this car mentioned on another site. It was described in detail in Autosport of 20.11.53. It had a supercharged Ford 1172cc s/v engine and coils at the back. I still don't know the full name of the builder, but his first name was Tony, because the name of the cars stands for "Tony's Eleven Seven Two."

It's funny how things turn up long after you've forgotten about it. I've just watched a film on Youtube of the 1960 Felixstowe Rally, and this event was won by Tony Bray in the T.E.S.T. registration YMX9. He is seen during a driving test (manoeuvering) which formed part of the rally. So he didn't use the car just for trials.

BTW the film captions claim that he was a former boyfriend of Margaret Thatcher!

Apparently it was Tony's Eleven Seventy Two, the builder being named Tony Gray
