Solved - NEH 3333: Don Chamberlain Special

What's this, built by whom, when, based on what and powered by what - for 1 point?:

Lovely proportions, but tight cockpit. No idea what it was/is. :(

I have found it as Chamberlain Special Built by Don Chamberlain. The desing started in 1953 with a 1/10 scale model.  In January 1954 Don got a running chassis from a 1936 Willys model 77, this chassis was shortened later. The first engine was from a1948 Studebaker Champion sedan. In November of 1956,  first body was laminated. In late 1957 the car was essentially complete and drivable, but without final paint and with the interior unfinished.

That's the car.
Whilst it started out originally with a Studebaker engine this was replaced in 1966 with a '62 Buick V8.

The car has recently been bought and restored but I don't have any post-restoration pictures; here are a few more from the 1950s though:

Those kids will be nearly 70 now  :(  Time really zooms by, doesn't it?

They're my contemporaries...
Time increases in speed exponentially once you get past 60...!
