That's right, the original body was thrown away much to the builder's later regret..
Not a Double 12 Replica.
But is it the body style we are supposed to find or have you found something mechanical that I can't see either.  It's over 55 years since I had one and happily the memory of it is fading at last.
Nothing in the rear view is M type except perhaps the wheels, and it seems to have knock-on wheels which Ms normally did not.

The information is out there so that's what's needed for the point, especially at Pro-level!
The questions originally posed need to be answered - so EXACTLY what was it based on (MG M-type is just not quite enough since we know what body style of M-type it was) and who did it are what's needed.

Sorry, but I can't see the point of knowing what body was thrown away, but let's suggest it was a salonette body.

Well it's just a puzzle looking for all the info known about the car and if it's a special-bodied one, its origin too.
You could say about very many of the puzzles here - what's the point in asking that!  It's just a part of the game: you don't have to take part if you don't want to.

I'll have to check exactly what a salonette body is before I can answer that..

It's not a Salonette, thought it is quite similar...

Well, that would be what the optimists at Oxford called the Sportsman's Coupé!

Yes indeed (one is pictured below).
The builder, understandably, later regretted his decision!  Now all we need is his name.

If it helps, here's another picture of it:

"Home-Built Car" by Robert Cutts, 1962.

I managed to find a photo of the back of it , the builder states it has a fibreglass body , I wouldn't be surprised If it was a Microplas Stiletto body (as pointed out by Austin), but Robert Cutts doesn't mention the source in his caption.

Yes I eventually found the same Robert Cutts set of photos and he says it was a small MG saloon but not specifically which model. He wrote: "it was definitely a saloon, it looked much like the Sportsmans Coupe below" but "below" links to an M but not to a Sportsmans Coupé.
If, as it seems, it was a Microplas body for an Austin 7, the M's 6'6" wheelbase would be a tight fit and anything longer than that would be impossible.

Yes, indeed, it was built by Robert Cutts.
This puzzle dates from long ago, and I recall delving into it and finding information on another site as well, which did say it was a Sportsman Coupé originally, which is what I wrote in my file on this, although I think it would take some finding again.

I also reached the conclusion the body used was a Microplas Stiletto.

So, WayneB, you get your first Professional point for this one!
Well done, though I think without the words "Sportsman's Coupé" to Google I don't think you would have been able to find this, so I'm giving a point to Allan L as well for doing so much digging and finding that.
