by the look of the rump it's a Triumph tr2 rather than a 3.

It's one or the other; that's the easy bit!
Triumph TR2 built in New Zealand. Only 2 we're built by Elio Chiminello and coachbuilders Clements & Stevens Limited.

Welcome to AutoPuzzles Majeko!
I'm very pleased to award you your first point for solving this one (though I actually had it as a TR3 rather than a TR2 but I did think it looked much more like a TR2 so didn't really believe my source..)
You have given more information than I had, because I didn't know who built it! I understand the car is pictured in the book "
The Triumph Sports Car", but I don't have that book so couldn't check. Would you mind sending me a scan or link to your proof of the builder (by Personal Message!) for the sake of verification, before I amend the title line to include it? (Please specially bear in mind you can't post links within the puzzles, as that is strictly banned according to the rules of AP).
Well done!
Here's a colour picture:
Thank you. I sent you a PM with the link of a PDF-file with the info.
Majeko has provided me with the full story and I see this car was created by one Matheson Beaumont, the car being engineered by him and Italian coachbuilder Elio Chiminello and built by Clements & Stevens Ltd.
A very interesting car, which allegedly handled better than any TR2 or TR3 ever did, despite weighing 300 kos more!
