It's rather nice and I wouldn't say no to an offer of a free one, but I always think these modern takes on old designs are a bit spoiled by their width-to-length ratio, i.e. they look too wide and can immediately be seen as faux.

After all that, does this have Ford Cortina suspension parts and mechanicals?

Looking at the windshield I would say it's either based on a MGB or Midget.

And I would say that I was right!  ;)

It's a Dragonfly kit car, from around 1973, and based on lengthened MG Midget chassis.

Here is some additional information (I even found an original brochure in pdf; if interested please let me know and I will PM you the link):

The name of the car is the 'Dragonfly Roadster' or 'Roadster'. It was built by the 'Dragonfly Cars Ltd', based in the city of Farnborough, UK. Base car was a lengthened Sprite or Midget. It was supposed to be a MG TF-inspired replica. The person who created the car is Mervyn Rees, and apparently the car dates from the very early 1980's.

OK, I'll give you that.
It dates from 1982 and was made by Dragonfly Cars Ltd., though I have their address as London Road, Hook, Basingstoke!  Maybe they moved..
Well done.
