For one point, specify the make, model, and coachbuilder of this old car

I may be a little off, but I believe this is a 1949 Volvo PV 61 with coach work by Nordberg.

One point awarded to Bill Murray for the correct answer.  Not sure about the year.

Interesting little convertible.  Resembles a lot of American cars from the late 30's.

Hi Cuda:

Not much info on this particular model that I have found so far.
In any case, between 1946 and 1950, a total of 3506 PV 60 and PV 61 were made.  3006 of the 60's and 500 of the 61's.

The 60's were apparently all bodied as 4 door sedans.  The 61's were supplied as chassis and cowl, no body, and were made into pickup trucks, panel trucks (Paketbil in Swedish terms), taxis on a lengthened chassis, hearses and ambulances and of course a small number of rather handsome convertibles.

I post two photos of other Nordberg convertibles here as well as a chassis and cowl variant of a model AA just to show what was supplied for the Pv 61 model.  I will look for some more convertibles from other coach makers later today.

I didn't realize when I posted this puzzle, that Bill "Mr. Volvo" Murray would probably solve it quickly

Bill Murray

You are too kind, Cuda.  There are at least 3 Swedish mates on the Forum that probably could have solved the puzzle if they had acted faster.

As a side note, it is interesting to me that in spite of working for Volvo for about 12 years including 2 years living in Sweden, 12 years with SAAB in the US, still being fluent in the language and knowing/having all sorts of reference sources, I never developed much of a desire to become a Volvo "expert" outside of their military cars and trucks 1935-1945.

Perhaps a case of "Familiarity Breeds Contempt", I really don't know.

In any case, I at least do know a vintage Volvo, Scania or SAAB when I see one even if I don't know all the details.

Thanks for the point.

I spoke to the grandsons of the founder of the company a couple of weeks ago. They donated their family archive to a trust here in Stockholm and from now on it´s possible to search for special material concerning the Gustaf Nordbergs Vagnsfabriks AB. The company was situated in building in the very central of Stockholm and the built several magnificent automobiles on Buick, Cadillac and RR chassis, but also a very bespoked Volvo PV 444 (or 445 to be correct). Not to say the mysterious experimental car Venus Bilo, a Volvo which didn´t look like any other Volvo.

The great photo on the Volvo PV 60 convertible is probably taken in Gärdet i Stockholm.

Keep on! I love this site!
