It's not based on any Austin!

Not an Austin, but it looks as if the Austin J-type (pedal car) influenced its styling rather heavily.
;D ;D

Alvis TA14, and it's so damned ugly I'd guess at Abbot.  I don't care who owns this horror, as I won't be making a bid!

Neither an Alvis nor by Abbott!
Somebody loves it, though..

Wheels are from a Vauxhall Velox L type from 1949.  Is this the base car?

AlexFrance

It is one of two 1955 Vauxhall-Bentley Special, nicknamed « Vauxley », built by a Bentley mechanic and a Vauxhall mechanic, and currently owned by singer/songwriter Joan Armatrading. It is powered by a Straight 6 Cresta engine and the car uses genuine Bentley parts.

..but beaten to it by AlexFrance!
Well done.
She has actually put the car up For Sale so now is someone's chance to own this (not quite) unique car.
Apparently these guys made 2, one for each of them.
Depending on where you read about them one was called the Vauxley and the other the Bentley Vauxha, although I'm not sure I believe that as some sites only refer to the two Vauxleys...

Ths car is For Sale again and is featured in a new puzzle; there is evidence there that the story in this thread is complete rubbish and this car is in fact a factory concept from 1948!

The new puzzle (with which this won't be merged as this has a different, if wrong, heading) can be found here:
