Well I have a vested interest, but I'd like to get this one out the way!

It's a Jowett Jupiter with a body by Coachcraft. Now owned by John Surtees.

I would have been disappointed if you hadn't been you who identified it!

This car is for sale at the moment if anyone is interested!

The Coachcraft Jupiter has been sold by John Surtees and is now under restoration owned by my good friend Kiyondo Sato, a retired Professor of Japanese aesthetics. Ed Nankivell - author

English chassis and body ?

It looks like a closed version of the Porcus Volans. Is there a link to that car?
It's as much fun to scare as to be scared

SACO

No relations with Porcus Volans !

richard cuyler

Porcus Volans, sounds like a nickname my daughter would give me when I'm in my bathing costume, or perhaps Porcus Vol-Au-Vents would be more accurate. :hah:

As for the car in the picture, someone was clearly trying to make it look Aston Martin-esque, but I suspect there's no connection whatever....er, is there?

frederick59

The front looks like a Ford Zephyr from the 50s
so are there Ford Zephyr parts in this car?

Majeko

SACO

Not Healey connection !

SACO

Not Ford Zephyr parts and not Morris based !

JPB

Based on a 1951 Jowett Jupiter chassis, that's the car (PPF746) which competed at Goodwood in 1954 and was owned by John Surtees until comparatively recently, when it sold at £38,505 in spite of its requiring a rebuild. The body was by Coachcraft. 8)

I thought it must be a repost - we've had just about every Jupiter ever built on AP over the years.

BTW the grille is definitely a Ford Zephyr MkI.
I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia
