LOCKED for you. That's not the name I have for the owner/builder.

I have rechecked my source, and I'm satisfied that I know the  name of the car's builder - it's not the one above. If it's any help, this photo appears to show the car when it was first built, which would make it 1949.

This photo was in a photograph album owned by Vin Smith but he did not build the car he may have owned it at this point and modified it

The Mg Vauxhall formerly J2 special
became the MG Special then the Alpha powered by Peugeout,
it was built on the J2 chassis. It makes you wonder what happened to all the MG parts

This is more information than I had at my disposal. For AP purposes this puzzle is now solved - well done. I cannot award the point until the system is back in action, so I will tidy up the post when I have been given the OK on this.

I have now checked my original source, which is a forum populated by enthusiasts from Down Under. There is no mention of Bill Kyrkwood, but I agree that the site does not categorically state that Vin Smith built the car. I rather assumed that was what had happened.

Anyway, your posts more than adequately identify the car, and the point is yours. From the puzzles you have solved up to now, you are clearly someone from that part of the world, and are a welcome addition to our ranks.

This is a photo of the car later in the 50s, when it had the attractive Maserati-style body modified, and now had an MG-style grille.
