What was this car called, where did it race, and what was the engine?
I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia

Yes, I know what you mean about the "Irish" look. (Talking of which, only the Irish could hold the Giro d'Italia!)

I have checked on Google Images for that advert, and there's no help there. Neither US nor Australia.

Is it from Europe?

It should be Delilah from India

1.5 liter Riley.

To follow the new rule about source of information, I've been browsing through Indian specials a couple years ago and I just remember this car and this exact photo from back then.

That's correct. I found this photo purely by accident, and for some reason I thought the motor-racing scene didn't exist in India until recently. I don't think there were many meetings, and most seem to have been for the locally-built Fiat 1100 saloons. There is a clue in the photo - there is a woman wearing a sari at the front of the spectators!

I can't get the idea out of my head that this car also raced in East Africa. I think I've seen reference to it racing in Zambia or Kenya, but as usual I didn't make notes at the time. Maybe it was owned by an Indian person who then moved back to the sub-continent and took the car with him.

One well-earned point for a difficult puzzle.

(PS 4 Amal carbs, Willys Jeep gearbox (I hope they changed the ratios!), and Morris Minor suspension.)

Actually the new rule does not require you to explain each time how did you find a puzzle but only to let us ask you randomly...  but that's the right spirit:thumbsup:
