Please tell me the date, the race, the car, and the driver.
Experts?
I suspect the Pros will queue up to answer this one.
Lancia Gamma, 1910 Vanderbilt Cup, William Knipper.
In my pic He is at the Tiedmann Trophy, 1910.
I'm not going to wait for you to find the actual race - it wouldn't take long. So the point is yours. It's a supporting race to the Vanderbilt Cup for stock cars called the Massapequa Sweepstakes in which the car came 4th.
I knew the Pros would find it. I sometimes wonder why the Experts can't spend some time - it's all available on the internet.
Was it private effort? Who build it? Any more details? Was it Lancia chassis and Lancia engine? :)
As we know Vincenzo Lancia was talented driver, but when it comes to racing his own cars there was big "NO"...

The race was one of two other races held simultaneously with the Vanderbilt Cup, the races starting at 30 minute intervals. There were only 6 entries, this Lancia, 2 Coles and 3 Abbott-Detroits. The race was for commercially available cars of 161ci-230ci capacity. All the cars in the race have stripped bodies suitable for racing, so I imagine the "stock" part of the rules related to the engine and chassis.
I have no other information - presumably this was a private effort. Maybe Knipper was the agent for Lancia in the US ?
