I think it's the 1984-ish Australian Mercedes 450SLC Saloon Car Championship racer with a Chev V8 under the bonnet. If so, the track is somewhere in Australia, probably Adelaide. Or, if my normal record is anything to go by, I could be completely wrong! :D

The track is Australian but it's not Adelaide. And don't forget I also need the names of both drivers.
Can't find much. I think one of the drivers was Bryan Thompson and the track is probably Calder Park near Melbourne.

Don't give up, you're really close to the answer. If you find all the racetracks where Jones and Thompson competed together in 1984, you'll find the answer very easily.

The only information missing is the racetrack where the picture was taken.
It could be: Lakeside, Surfers Paradise, Sandown or Oran Park. If it's one of these, I'll simply do the single-question-and-answer, one-per-reply method till I get it right. Or if you think I've done enough by now, you could maybe simply say, yes, it's (whichever) and hand me the point! Up to you. If, however, it's not any of these tracks, it'll be a better man than I who has the patience and time to isolate a given Aussie racetrack and you'll have to try the Professionals, I'm afraid! ;) :D
