That's what we like.
For one point, please respond and identify this car, its base and its builder.

Yes, that was the easy part :D
:D
Was it based on an Alfa 2600?
I don't know.
Judging by the looks it could be possible.
Thanks for front page coverage!
Other cars by this maker were also one-offs?
As little as I know, yes.
Another beauty disappearing into eternal darkness
Built in the 1960s?
I don't have a year, but telling by the looks I am tempted to agree.
Alfa-Romeo based, built in South Africa...not the only car by the builder...Is the answer in a book?
I found the picture at an online auction and an article online which I can't find right now. That's all I know about this car.
A bad photo !
Alfa 1900 by Giovanni Cecchini (Karoo _ South Africa ) ?
A very nice find. Now we know the Alfa Romeo model it was based on: the 1900.
My Italian isn't good at all, but I understand that Giovanni Cecchini was not the builder. I have another name anyway. Perhaps a native speaker can summarize the text. ;D
The text contains the location where these specials were built, the Campo Felice station at Three Sisters.
The most important thing is missing though, the name of this car.
It's barely readable but Cecchini was the person who arrived in that Shell distributor, called "Campo Felice" owned by an Italian family and where he saw the car, shown by the family.
Thanks, I thought so.
Googling that name, "Giovanni Cecchini", I find this race driver. Any connection?
I don't know as I never noticed his name until SACO's post. Perhaps SACO can tell us more about his source.
I hope is Quattroruote Magazine...
A big hint in order to get this one solved: its name is very similar to a name used by a mass-produced sports car and a low-volume sports car as well.
This one has been dormant for too long! Could its name be Alpine?
No
How about Tiger? (just keen to see this one solved, as it's an Alfa, and this has been intriguing me now for too long!) :D
Keep on trying, not Tiger.
"Manta"?
No, but heading in the right direction.
Murena?
No
Let me expand my hint:
- there were a mass-produced sports car and a low-volume sports car with a similar name
- there was a kit car with exactly the same name
Thank you for the hint Wendax. As a further hint, is the name animal related? ;)
No
OK, thanks Wendax. This could take a while, but to start with, how about Sebring?
No
Daytona?
No
Elite?
No
Nova?
No
We've eliminated the animal kingdom as a source of names. How about place names?
Not a place name either
Celestial objects?
No stars etcetera, but the considering that direction could prove worthwhile, just a bit.
Rocket?
No
Astra?
Let's try weather and climate: Mistral?

Let's try weather and climate: Mistral?
That's a much better idea, not Mistral though, but with the previous guesses you will find the solution quickly.
Saturn?
Tempest?
Bora?
Tornado?

Mirage

Storm?
Scirocco?
Typhoon
Cyclone?
Not Storm, Typhoon or Cyclone, but Scirocco is very, very close. Have a look at my reply #100 and you will get the solution.
Locked for Paul Jaray.
It has to be Sirocco, then...

Yes, just two letters missing, as it is a Sirocco xx (Fill the xx).
Something easy like GT?
Yes. After more than two years I'm glad to call this puzzle solved, although I originally asked for the builder. But that information isn't available online anymore. His name was V. Bellia.
One point for Paul Jaray for finding the car's name. The other Black Hole point goes to SACO for providing the information that it was based on an Alfa Rome 1900.
Phew, at last! Well done to all for a great puzzle. :applause:
Nice find!
PJ - forever the king of AP! :)
Your car culture is absolutely amazing! :applause: :hail:
