1956  EMPI Sportster. All steel VW based buggy.

One point awarded to ValkyrieGT for the correct answer.  I understand this is also a rare example of the Sportster, as it is considered a 4-seater or 2+2.  (There is a shorter 2-seater.)

It seems in 1956, they hadn't quite figured out the "fiberglass VW-based buggy" concept.
