BERTRAND

What is it and when?

Pros, who know this car

Allan L

I think that may be one of the Stars taking part in the Gordon Bennett Eliminating Trials on 30 May 1905 on the Isle of Man.
Opinionated but sometimes wrong

I confirm that the photo was taken in 1905 (I suppose that the car dates the same year, but I have no confirmation of it). If this car ran in Gordon Bennett, I don't know. I can just tell you that this photo was not taken in the race Gordon Benett

Allan L

The various countries that sent cars to take part in the Gordon Bennett races held Eliminating Trials to determine which of their cars & drivers were the best. Great Britain held its Trials on 30 May 1905 on the Isle of Man and the GB race itself started on 5 July '05 (near Clermont Ferrand in the Auvergne).
Whilst the car looks like the GB Star, I've now seen a photo which shows that the Star did not have mudguards at the Isle of Man.
Opinionated but sometimes wrong

That's not a Star

1905 Herkomer Trial?
I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia

Tough one Bertrand, but I think it is a big French made Radia 40/45 CV from about 1904-1905.

BERTRAND

...And you think well 4popoid.  Good job.  I have just Radia 1905, and the photo took at the "course de côte de Gaillon" (course de côte - Hill Climb) in France.
