Please unlock this. I was simply narrowing the field and don't have any leads to a one-off Lancia engined car - can they be called etceterini or is that only Italian-built Fiat engined cars?
-
I hope SACO and D-type don't mind me posting before the official unlocking, but I'm off to work in a few minutes, and won't be back online until much later.
I have found 5 different Lancia eigenbau cars built in Germany, and some have been previous puzzles. The only one I can't account for was built in East Germany (DDR) by Hans Thorns. Is this his car?

Are you sure ?
Thanks for the hint ;D
I thought I knew British competition cars of that period, and I can't recall any Lancia-based specials. This may take a lot of work.
-
So far - nothing. It's a pretty car with a well-designed body looking like a mini D24. I'm guessing that it's a lot smaller.
Do you know if it's based on an Aprilia or an Ardea?
-
I don't know !
-
Is this car the Lamgia of Alex MacMillan ?
-
The Lamgia of Alex MacMillan !
1 point for nicanary ! :)
Why Lamgia and a better pic ?
-
Thank you for the point. I found the car by chance, like most members of AP, whilst looking for another car with a Rochdale body. I cannot find any images of the car online, and took a guess.
The car was registered KRO548 and was built by a Dr. Kennedy using a Lancia Augusta chassis and an MG TC engine of 1250cc which was later bored-out to 1460cc. It originally had a body built by Harry Lester, which I guess may have been a cycle-winged affair. The car must have been built in the late 1940s, because in 1950 it was bought by Roy Croysdell. It later passed to Alex MacMillan, who rebodied the car using an alloy body from Rochdale Panels, which is the one in the puzzle photo. They later sold the car for him after he had bought an Elva chassis, which he bodied in a Rochdale Type F (this has been a previous AP puzzle.)
The car is named Lamgia because it is a Lancia chassis with an MG engine.
(No wonder I couldn't remember any Lancia-engined competition cars of the 50s in the UK!)

For those of you are are interested in that sort of thing, I have traced the race this car was competing in. It is a National meeting held at Silverstone on 6 June 1953 - the Lamgia came 3rd overall in a 7-lap scratch race, behind an Allard and a JAG-Ford, 21 seconds behind the winner. I thought I recognised the angle of the photo - it's taken from the spectator stand above the pits at Silverstone. I guess this was practice for the race - the car wouldn't have finished 3rd if it had spent time in the pits.
