No.
It's really VERY famous, around the world.

Wendax

An extremist publication, so to say.  ;D

Guinness Book? World's smallest car (at the time)?

Yes. For the German edition at least.

"W. Fritz, a car dealer, is displaying the smallest car in the world"?

I don't know from where you've got that, but it's not the name I'm after.

We're looking for an electric driven microcar.

Otto Puzzell

I got that from a book (but not the Guinnes Book, to which I don't have access) :D

As said before I reckon it's not easy to find. My source reports it's in the Guinness book* of 199_ but I couldn't confirm either.

*to be exact it's a Guinness smallest electric... of the world. If it actually IS featured in the book I don't know.

Ah, so >1990, and not <1990

Oh sorry, I misread your post.
Yes, it's from the nineties.

Otto Puzzell

No worries  :)

I expect there is enough here for somebody to find the answer - especially if they have ready access to German-language Guinness Books from the 1990's!  ;D

I found a magazine cutout from 1988, Rudi Augstein is the wanted man!

Wendax

To answer the remaining questions not only with the German article: he was from Westheim (Rhineland-Palatine) and his car was electric powered.

After 2½ years we finally have a winner! :applause:
I never could confirm if it was entry of the Guiness Book of Records, so it's a relief that we now have another source.

2 more points for Wendax' tally.

(the builder is apparently not the ex-editor of German's most famous political magazine..)

The car is for sale right now. The builder's name was Rudi Augustin, not Augstein. The car was built from 1976 to 1983 taking 6500 hours of work. Its official name is RA (Rudi Augustin) Audi X1.

Wendax

It is for sale again, but I doubt that anybody will pay 59,000 € for it.
