Australian, Ford-based special from the 1950s?
Not from Oz, not Ford-based and not from the 1950s!
Close guess, wasn't it? ;)

Is this car based on a popular British family car of the late 1940s ?

British, 1940s base, but not based on a family car..
It looks like an Allard K2 which got put in the laundry. Surely it's not another Buckler?

You're right, it's not another Buckler!
I keep looking for clues in the puzzle photo. Those "easiclean" wheels were fitted to most cars of the time, and could come from almost anything. It's a very short wheelbase - is it a rebodied Dellow?
I don't have any detail about this car, just what it is, which is not a Dellow!
I'm thinking out loud as usual...... not a family car, but it's got wheels which wouldn't have been fitted to a sports car. Clearly a one-off special, with bodywork typical of the late 40s. So maybe a rebodied pre-war car - a Lea-Francis?

Not a LeaF..
Pre-war Morgan 4/4 ?

Pre-war Morgan 4/4 ?
Not a Morgan, but check my reply #7!
Quite. I must learn to read. HRG ?
I find it hard to associate those front wheels with anything other than Ford of Dagenham, but you clearly wrote it is not Ford based.
The rear wheels look a bit like those of a 20/90 British Salmson, but that's not a 1940s car although it's not a family car!
J.A.G. based?
Based on a Singer Roadster?
Not a British Salmson, J.A.G. or Singer!
Based on a Jaguar?
based on a truck?
Based on a Triumph?
We seem to be going round in circles. You have confirmed that it's not based on a family car, so is it built on the chassis/engine of a British sports car?

Yes!
I can't understand those very basic wheels, but is it MG based?

Yes it is, so I'll lock it for you now.
Thanks for the lock. The wheels make sense now - they're probably from a TD, although that model wasn't introduced until 1950. Maybe the base is an earlier MG model.
Still can't find it yet.
It's nearly 24 hours on lock, and I can't find it. Please unlock so everyone can have a go.
Was the rebody done in the UK?

No it wasn't.
In fact I've done a bit more digging and I find my Reply #2 to D-type was incorrect when I told him it was not Australian; it was..
Sorry D-type.
I just discovered this apparently forgotten puzzle. I can't believe someone hasn't tried the obvious, but since they haven't, I will. It has been established that it is an MG sports chassis (not family) from the 1940's, customized in Australia. By my reasoning, if it is an MG sports chassis from the 1940's it must be a TC (it could be a very late TB, but that would be very unlikely). So I will say a: 1940's ('45-'49) MG-TC with a customized body (I have no idea who the customizer might be - it might be a homebuilt).

You're right!
And that's all I know about it too so it's one point for you and the puzzle is solved.
