I'm not sure what it's based on but I don't think it's either of those.

I think it's based on an Austin A40 Farina, but from the sills to the windowline at least it seems to be made of glassfibre.  ???

That's what it looked like to me too, but it didn't say on my source.  It is possible though.

It's a Lotus-powered A40 Farina by Clyde Collins, New Zealand

You could be right about the base but I have slightly different info about who it was by.
What I need for the point is the race series it was built for and who it was by (it's plastered all over the side in my un-modified puzzle photo!)
Locked for you to dig into.

I found some more information about this car that states it was called the Fordina. Built by Clyde Collins(maybe by his mechanic: Phil Williams) with a Ford pushrod motor. He sold it in 1967 to his brother Warren  who fitted a Lotus engine. Other information says he bought the car from Jim Mullins. It raced in the Allcomer Saloon categorie in New Zealand in 1966/67

I'd be interested to read that as it all differs from the info I have, except I understand it was fitted with a Lotus engine later in its life.
Perhaps you could PM me the link?

Are you looking for the name Ron Rutherford who also build a Lotus Farina for the OSCA 4-cylinder racing series?

You've got the right race series (Open Saloon Car Association) but still not the name I'm looking for.
Still locked for you; should be easy now.

Ron McPhail?

Yes, that's the name I was looking for.
I understood he built this car for the race series which he presided over.
My first point awarded in 2015!
