I thought it very modern-looking for a 1947 car (quite a few years in advance of anything the Brits could come up with until at least the mid-fiftes) and wondered if it had been re-bodied later than that?

I'm sure this is a repost - indeed I solved it.  But a quick search does not reveal it. Odd.
I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia

The chassis may be from 1947, but the body certainly isn't. I have no definite info, but it seems to be possibly a complete reconstruction.
