Sorry about the poor quality of the picture but it's all I could find.
What is it and who built it, for 1 point?:

Beetle-based one-off ?
I don't actually know what it's based on or what engine it has.
All I know is what it's called and who built it.
Won't be easy to find then !
Is the builder known for other cars ?

Makes a change!
I believe this is the only car he built..
It is the Ferguson Special built by Ross Ferguson. He also built a 2/3 scale Spitfire airplane.

Very impressive - you've found it!
I know that's what it says it is on that site but it's also pictured on another site (where my puzzle picture came from) where it actually says what Ross Ferguson himself calls it; not Ferguson Special but Ferguson ****** ****** (don't count the stars!).
Locked for you to find it.

Ferguson Super Sport
Exactly!
Apparently scratch-built by Ross Ferguson; it looks to be a very nice job and it's a pity there aren't more and better pictures of it on the Web.
I found this one:
Well done.
Did it say anything about its mechanicals?
Unfortunately not

Seems to be pretty elusive....
Hello. I can tell you all you want to know about the Ferguson Super Sport, having waxed and polished it several times and driven in it twice (once when hitch hiking) with the owner/builder who was a big influence on my life for four years.
If you'd like more info on this truly one of a kind car, let me know.
Hello Larry and thanks.
Some details of its mechanicals would be nice. What engine and running gear does it have? And is it a proprietary chassis?
Have you got any more pictures of it?
Many thanks
Hello CARNUT, I came across this post about the Ferguson Super Sport while looking to see if anyone knew what happened to it. I was involved in the early stages of the car just after Ross finished it and was working out the bugs. I was in the car for it's first long ride, approx 200 kM from Toronto To London Ontario to put the car in an indoor car show.
Ross won best in class and best engineering awards. WE also attended the Toronto car show where the car won the same two awards. Ross was invited to bring the car the to Detroit car show but declined. I know a bit about the cars design. Ross ordered a 'crate' engine from Ford. A 271hp 289 cu.in. The chassis was of a tubular design built and designed by Ross.
In the mid 1950's Ross obtained a series of very detailed drawing of the Mercedes 300SL Gullwing. These drawings enspired him the design and build the SuperSport. I believe it took him more than 8 years. Something tells me it was 12 years but I cannot confirm that. Ross even built the molds for the wheels.

Thanks for the info Peter. It's great to have it.
Wonderful engine! I love those Ford 289s and I have a TVR with one.
Ross did a terrific job and if you have any good photos of the car perhaps you could post them?
Thanks.
