Jaguar Special by Sheppard, 1957

Paul Jaray

This car was featured in a website I know quite well.

Carnut

That's the right car.
Its bonnet looks remarkably like an E-Type bonnet (particularly around the scuttle area), a car which was still 4 years away from appearing when this car was supposedly built.
This car doesn't look to me like it was built in 1957, despite what is written about it..
Any idea which Jaguar it was said to be based on?

And here's that front view:

There are speculations about this car in at least 3 different forums. The only verified fact is that donor car was probably a ' 57 Jaguar sedan according to the license plate. All the rest suggests it's a special from the 70s.

OK, we'll call it solved.  There was speculation it was based on a Jaguar Mk VII but if it's based on a 1957 Jaguar saloon it would be a later Mk VIII or else a 2.4 litre MkI.  1970s is much more believable for that bodywork.
Very good.
