Not for what they built.

oko94

For what they raced or drove ?

oko94

Did they race motorcycles ?

D-type

Built by one of the Marzotto family?

Powered by Peugeot?
Duncan Rollo

The more you learn, the more you realise how little you know.

Paul Jaray

They did not race motorcycles (or at least it's not reported in their wikipedia page) but are both not obscure.
I have not much details on the car but It was still out there few years ago.
Not Marzotto.

nicanary

Were the builders brothers, or unrelated?
I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia

Paul Jaray

Unrelated.(..but forever connected).

oko94

Are they known for being plane pilots ?

oko94

Paul Jaray

He was not remembered as an hero. They were both quite known for something else...and still are.

oko94

Was Italo Balbo one of the guys ?

Paul Jaray

Nope...but one of them has been pretty close to him in at least one occasion.

oko94

Gabriele D'Annunzio ?

oko94

Let's get back to the plane pilot : did he become famous because he broke a record / achieved something spectacular ?

Such as the Schneider Trophy pilots Mario de Bernardi (but I doubt it would be him),  Adriano Bacula, Tommasso Dal Molin or Federico Guazetti?
Opinionated but sometimes wrong

Paul Jaray

Nope. I read it was also a pilot  on his page.. I didn't remember that.
In the aviation is also the connection with Balbo, for a specific episode...

Was one of the puzzle guys a pilot of one of the flying boats involved in the transatlantic flights led by Balbo in 1930 and 1933 ?

Paul Jaray

Nope. This episode is not much known. Only if you already know who we are talking about, you could find it in his bio...and I don't know if it's in Balbo's.
Let's say he once was in trouble and received some help.
The builders of this car joined few others to 'do' what assured them their fame.

Not impossible to solve

I see a contradiction here  ;D

Paul Jaray

It is not...but it is hard to explain why.
2 men build this car.
They were also gentlemen drivers.
1 of them was a pilot too.
They did something that will make them known all over the world (of course if we remain in our field, cars ;) )
Reading the bio of 1 of them you can read that episode about Balbo, but it's not that relevant.

Paul Jaray

A group of gentlemen drivers...joined togheter...what could they possible do of such an importance to be remembered till nowadays?
I think with your next guess will arrive a lock...

oko94

Aymo Maggi and Franco Mazzotti ?
