The swipe of colour diagonally across the grill suggests Lancia Esatau. If so, this would be a mid-to-late 1940s vehicle.

thorax

Not Lancia but right period

Wheels look like Fiat 621's one we had some time ago...is it a Fiat 626 electric prototype?

thorax

Auto Lux is the right answer but I've a different year: locked to Wendax

Sorry, I mistyped. It is a 1947 Auto-Lux.

Hiawatha

Masked headlights , white mudguards and bumper suggest wartime..

Bill Murray

I think Hiawatha is correct and it may be mis-identified on the web.
Gerd has the point in my opinion but I would say 1940-1942 vintage is more likely.

I knew there was a reason why I didn't take the year from the original caption.  :bag:

There are some differences between the quiz truck and the one shown in the picture with Mussolini;  the windscreen corners are less rounded, the mudguards are different (without the two cromed profiles), the front grill is different and the front light looks less prominent, the profile on the cabin is very different.

These photographs were taken on 04.09.1942.  The legend only says "Roma - Il Duce osserva un nuovo tipo di vettura e autocarro elettrico, presentatogli dal sen. Beneduce a Villa Torlonia"  The truck was built by Società meridionale elettrocarri Napoli.  Maybe it was a prototype ?

Bill found a wonderful reference about this subject. "La storia di Auto Lux, elettrica a Milano nel 1937" was written by Franco Maggiolini "pubblicato nel numero 2 di Auto Elettrica, Marzo – Aprile 1992".  Thanks a lot, Bill !
