No, on the wrong track as not named after a circuit.

Carnut

More like Mille Miglia then?

Rally Cross ?
Sorry, still locked to Carnut until tomorrow, but does the styling of this proposal really suggest rally cross?!

Formula One (it doesn't look much like an F1 car either!)?

It may not look like an F1, but that's what this proposal was called, so well done, another point to you.

I'll post more details and another image later today.

I think Bernie Ecclestone would have had his lawyers on the case if this had gone ahead. Pretty sure he's got the name "Formula One" under copyright. And "Grand Prix" - that's why these days nobody can hold any race and call it a grand prix even though it's just a French phrase.
I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia

That's why they chose F1 I guess, as McLaren in the same period.

More info and another image of this still-borne GD F1 proposal.  The car was conceived by Melvyn Gardner, a co-founder of Gardner Douglas, in the early 1990s.  The F1 remained purely a dream on paper, with no models made.  It's a shame, as it was a great looking machine.

Thanks Djetset.  Fascinating. So he beat McLaren to the name by a couple of years!
Thanks for the point.
