From Australia?
No
1903 N.A.G. Durch-Lastzug
Yes, correct! It is also known as Troostscher Lastzug, named after Oberleutnant a.D. Troost who commissioned these truck-trailer combinations (the world's first) for South West Africa.
The Last Train to Trootscher? Wasn't that a Monkees record?
Ah no, that was The Last Train to Clarksville..!
(and I DO know what a 'Lastzug' really means Wendax!)
:)
A most interesting vehicle to be sure!!
May I ask an honest question..........
Was the uniformed gentleman on the last trailer some sort of steersman for the last part of the land train?
Bill
It looks like a "Bremser", a man operating the trailer brakes. Many truck trailers had such a brake operator seat or even a cabin.
Yes, of course.
The lever he is holding on to with his right hand would be a braking lever, not a steering lever.
Thanks.
Bill
I should have known this one...
My original 1903 source claims that it featured a 40HP spiritus engine.
It was a truck was used for the german Deutsch Südwest colonial troops (now Namibia):
