To avoid confusion, all Auto Union 1000 Sp Roadster had Baur bodies. This one had the Wankel engine most probably fitted by an individual. I don't think that Baur did the conversion.

I don't think Baur worked on engines did they?  Hence I didn't mean that.
But the bodywork is a little different from standard (around the grille anyway)?

I think those are quite recent modifications made during restoration in order to house the (Mazda?) three-rotor Wankel engine.

A Mazda?  Oh dear...
I seem to recall this picture came from the same site as that red 1000 SP Coupé "prototype" I puzzled a few weeks ago (not Akkermans!)
It was a Dutch DKW site and I'm amazed that such a site contains so much wrong information.
I emailed them (twice) seeking clarification and more information, but of course received no reply at all..
Enthusiastis?  I really don't think so..

The seller claims that it has a three-rotor engine which rules out any NSU powerplant. I don't think that Mercedes-Benz or Audi sold any of their experimental three-rotor engines. That leaves Mazda as the next best possibility, but it is only a guess...  ;)
