It's not out of place there, but it's widely used - not particularly German as such.

Yes, this is a 21 year old Henry Baumgartner's HB1 design proposal for an efficient, safe and good looking grand tourer in 1959. The sliding doors were designed to solve issues of parking in tight spots.

I've included an interior design and will put this one to bed!
