Title: It's an All-or-Nothing Trifecta Grab-Bag Puzzle! Solved by Tom_I and Wendax
Post by: Otto Puzzell on October 13, 2012, 05:34:33 AM
Time to try something a little different. Three pictures, with little or no relation to each other, except - this being AutoPuzzles - there is a car in each. How does this puzzle work?

The Rules:

The Payoff:

Three points will be awarded to the first person to provide all of the required information for all three pictures.

Bonus - If the correct trifecta solution is posted with 24 hours of this initial puzzle post move to the open-for-all pro section, the person who does so will receive double (i.e., six) points.

Here is the specific information you must provide in order to qualify for the points, and then the pictures:

PAFW All-or-Nothing Trifecta Grab-Bag #1 : Who are the two people in front of the race car? And what did that young lady have in common with a an automobile that went into production 54 years after she was born?

PAFW All-or-Nothing Trifecta Grab-Bag #2 : Name that car, the year, and the company that crafted that bodywork (there had to be a least one easy one - right?)

PAFW All-or-Nothing Trifecta Grab-Bag #3 : What is that car? Who built it? And what is the significance of the this math equation, in relation to this car: 4+3+4=11? And, why did a huge corporation allegedly see to it that only this single example was built?

This is going absolutely nowhere.  :-\

OK - I'll now pay 1 point each for the first correct solution each of the three puzzle questions:

One point for the first correct answer to this multi-part puzzle question: PAFW All-or-Nothing Trifecta Grab-Bag #1 : Who are the two people in front of the race car? And what did that young lady have in common with a an automobile that went into production 54 years after she was born?

One point for the first correct answer to this multi-part puzzle question:  All-or-Nothing Trifecta Grab-Bag #2 : Name that car, the year, and the company that crafted that bodywork (there had to be a least one easy one - right?)

One point for the first correct answer to this multi-part puzzle question:  PAFW All-or-Nothing Trifecta Grab-Bag #3 : What is that car? Who built it? And what is the significance of the this math equation, in relation to this car: 4+3+4=11? And, why did a huge corporation allegedly see to it that only this single example was built?

The man is Don Cameron, and the girl is a 19-year-old model called Jo Raquel Tejada, who would become much better known under her married name as Raquel Welch.

She was born in 1940, so 54 years on is 1994. I think the car is the Chrysler Neon, and the link is via the duo band Neon Neon, whose 2007 single "Raquel" was based on an alleged affair in the 1970s between Raquel Welch and John DeLorean. The song also appeared on their 2008 album "Stainless Style" in which all the songs were in some way associated with DeLorean.

I can't find the exact picture, but I have found a car which looks more or less identical, and is a 1932 Chrysler bodied in the style of an "Airline Saloon" by a small British coachbuilder called R.E.A.L. I haven't been able to find out anything much about this company, except that they tended to reproduce the styles of more prestigious coachbuilders on relatively inexpensive chassis.

As you may have guessed, it's Part 3 that I haven't made any progress with...

You have correctly ID'd the persons. I'm looking for a different car-girl connection. Not DeLorean, nor Neon.

#1 : is Raquel Welch related to a mass-produced American car launched in 1994 ?

Is it really nearly four years since I last had a go at this one?

In reply #6 I identified Don Cameron and Jo Raquel Tejada, better known as Raquel Welch. Is the 1994 car the Ford Contour? As a teenager Raquel won a beauty pageant in San Diego which gave her the title of Miss Contour.

Sort of...

The car is older than that, but came to be modified in the 1950's

#3 is Jack Crabbs' 1948 Buick Roadmaster called "Black Flame". The body was sectioned 4 inches, channeled 3 inches and the top was chopped 4 inches, which adds to an 11-inch lowered appearance. Jack's intent was to build and market a low scale production custom car for wealthy people, like the Kurtis Cad and the Muntz of the same time. When he tried to obtain permission from GM he was told that no matter what he did the car was initially a Buick, and the permission was denied.

PAFW All-or-Nothing Trifecta Grab-Bag #1 / Don Cameron with Jo Raquel Tejada (Raquel Welch) "Miss Contour" / Ford Contour
Point for Tom_I

PAFW All-or-Nothing Trifecta Grab-Bag #2 / 1932 Chrysler Six Coupe by R.E.A.L.
Point for Tom_I

PAFW All-or-Nothing Trifecta Grab-Bag #3 / Jack Crabb's 1948 Buick Roadmaster "Black Flame" The body was sectioned four inches, channeled 3 inches and the top was chopped 4 inches. Crabb was denied permission by GM to series-produce the car (though, personally, I don't think it would have sold well).
Point for Wendax

The Black Flame was for sale last years as a dilapidated 'barn find'. Here are some pics of the car in its glory days

Great to see this solved after four years, especially #3. I spent hours looking for that one, but never found it.
