From UK both car and driver ?

Part of the car is from UK, the rest is not. Nor the driver.

Any Alta connection?

Yes indeed. This is the Pros section, so I'm not going to lock it at this stage - tell me more before the others beat you to it.

There was an Alta with Maserati engine. Is it this one?

Not this one, I'm afraid.

Yes, it was of American origin, although the engine may have been built (I don't know for sure) in a nearby country.

Well solved. I don't know much about this car - it looks to me that the chassis may have been lengthened. No doubt these days it's back to original spec and worth a large sum of money.

One more point to your total.

PS I've just realised I forgot to say that the car was sometimes referred to as the Monarch Special.  I'll add that to the title.
