Thorax is right :

"Australischer Outback-Renner aus einer NSU-Prima 5-Stern"

I was thinking of Messerschmitt. A combination of "Kabinenroller" and "eigenbau" gave this answer.

You are right that it was called a Kabinroller Eigenbau powered by a 150 cc NSU motor on the site where the picture came from, but regarding the quotation, it means "Australian Outback Racer from an NSU - Great - 5 stars" so I think must refer to something other than this home-built microcar...!

So the point goes to Thorax for getting the NSU base.

Here's a front view:

Never trust Pinterest! The quotation came from the original site and referred to remains of a NSU scooter modified in Australia. The picture car most probably doesn't even have a NSU engine. The original source just tells the town where it is from. I guess you'll have to open it up again, Carnut.  :(

PS. It is not a great NSU, but the NSU Prima scooter. Thanks to your automatic translation!  ;D

Carnut

Aha - thanks for that Wendax.
I've had to take away Thorax's point and open this up again to ALL Pro's (you should have given me the answer and earned yourself the point Wendax!).  Sorry Thorax.

Actually it wasn't a computer translation but my own; I've often heard the expression 'Prima' used in Germany when people think something's really good or great so thought it was someone's opinion of it!  I didn't know about the NSU Prima scooter.

All that remains now, as Wendax said, is to say where this (non-NSU) Eigenbau comes from.

It is from Luckenwalde. If anybody happens to know its builder, he can earn himself a point over here: http://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/pros-and-feature-writers/enigma-variations-%28postwar-edition%29-opus-3/

(Not sure, whether I deserve a point for this answer.  )

No, well of course when I posted it I thought I was looking for an NSU Eigenbau but you've put me straight on that!
I'll think about it overnight.  I don't see why not though!

Thanks for the point. It should read Luckenwalde in the header.
