I see what you mean; I've seen no mention of Giugiaro involvement but it is possible it's his I suppose.

OK so apparently it's a model for a Trabant sedan successor, from 1988. It doesn't look half bad for the period, actually.

I know that's what it says on many websites, but it's not actually correct!  1988 is right I believe, but it's not a Trabant..
I agree it's quite attractive, albeit a bit derivative.

I think I've got it now. It was a proposal for the successor of the Wartburg 353, designed at the University of Dresden.

That's it, yes.
The guys responsible were Johannes Uhlmann, Karl-Heinz Scharschmit and Gunther Kranke.
