Not an early version of the Space Shuttle.

For one point, please respond and identify this vehicle and what it was used for.

These are loudspeaker trucks commissioned by the West Berlin Government to answer propaganda speaker installations put up by the Russians in East Berlin in 1961.

The Russians tried to disrupt meetings and speeches in West Berlin with the loudspeakers and this was the West's answer.

A number of them were mounted on Volkswagen bus chassis and at least 4 were mounted on "heavy truck chassis".
I have not found the marque of the heavy trucks, but I would imagine they were probably Mercedes brand vehicles.
The effort was said to be successful.

Below is a photo of a mix of Volkswagens and trucks with the speakers mounted.

Well found, the puzzle vehicle is a Mercedes-Benz, but not a heavy truck, and it can be seen on your picture, too. Locked for you to find the type.

At this point, I can only guess as i don't find any more photos other than Volkswagen versions but it may be an L 319.

Good guess, the point is yours.

Those trucks were part of "Studio am Stacheldraht" (studio at the barbed wire).

Thank You!!

I just a few minutes ago found the same photo googling "stacheldraht" and was about to post it.
