I hope it's not a highly modified Bugatti?

Your hopes are dashed! Yes it is - that wide cockpit area indicates that this was once designed to carry a racing mechanic. It's a modified Bugatti 35B that was raced pre-WW2 and modernised after the war.
My original puzzle asked for the chassis/engine combination, but to get the point - who owned this car? LOCKED for you.
(I see my puzzle was "what is this car" but the car was named after the owner/driver).
So it's a Bugatti after all, the radius arm was the give away.
Still can't find anything about it, did it race in Germany?

Is this the car that Dutchman Bob Laming modified the bodywork and grafted a BMW 6-cylinder into?

There is no Dutch connection to my knowledge. I know the name of the driver, and he named the car after himself - I believe he built the car.
UNLOCKED.
OPEN to all Pros.

Yes. The driver was born in another part of Europe, but lived in a Benelux country and I believe adopted citizenship in that country.

Nor him. I can't decide whether I am misleading you or not - I know his Italian name, but that isn't the name he put on his race entry forms.
Maybe I'll regret giving you this hint........

I'm fairly confident he never competed in F1 racing - this photo was taken at a "Grand Prix" but it wasn't to F1 regulations.
(I doubt if younger members will understand that!)

I'm sorry, I don't know his date of birth. However, I think it would probably be in between those dates.

Sorry, I don't know. Even a well-known website which contains driver details does not have this information.

Makes a change for me! You earned that point the hard way - it helps if you know where to look or have reference books ;D.
It's his Legros Speciale. He raced a Bugatti 35B in the same race in 1939, and after WW2 he owned a BMW328, and decided to combine the 2 items into a more modern car. I only have a record of his entry in this race, although he may have entered it in lesser races of which there is no record on the internet. His real name was Giuseppe Mucciero - I'm afraid i have no idea whether he changed his name, or whether it was just his racing alias.
