What is this we are looking at? (The wheels were a huge clue!)

jaguar?

It's not a Jaguar, although the designers did use styling cues from a Jaguar car.

Seen this photo somewhere but just can't find it. Trying to think of something with distinctive wheels ..... is it a Triumph Stag/v8 replacement?

MGB/MGB V8 replacement?

That'll do for the point. Well solved.

It's a clay model built in 1974 as an investigation into rebodying the V8 to look less like the basic MGB GT. It has hints of the XJS in the rear buttress styling. A full metal prototype was never built. The slave wheels in the photo were actual GT V8 wheels which is why I covered them!
