This is a DAF based Kalmar, built for the swedish post

http://www.dafclub.de/html/dafkalmar.html

it is based on the DAF 44 with the famous Variomatic gearbox.

Very cool thing, as you can drive backwards with the same speed as forwards...

The six-seater civil version is also known as the"Tjorven":

Indeed, it is a Kalmar Verkstad  - a rebodied DAF 44, This six-passenger Tjorven is a somewhat rare version of the more typical delivery van.

This is actually a re-post from pre-historic times but I doubt if many current members were here when it featured..
So, what is it, by whom, for whom and from when - for 1 point?:

Sorry, I realized that in my haste to answer - it's so rare that I recognize something on the forum - I haven't fully read the question... Thus I add that it has been introduced in 1968, then built for the Swedish post from 1969 until 1971.

All correct so far.
But you also need to add who built it for your point!
Easy now...

Well, if ever you haven't skipped my first message, I'm now in trouble as I do not have any further name for its manufacturer than Kalmar Verkstadsaktiebolag.

Yes, that's what I was looking for;  you hadn't mentioned the manufacturer's full name before.
So I'll merge it now.
Well done.

A small story, perhaps interesting.

As many of you know, I was employed by Volvo and SAAB over a 22 year period, about equally split.
During my time with Volvo, I was stationed in the Gothenburg area for 2 years, 1974/1976, During this time, the Kalmar/DAF
Postal vehicle was in service in the city.

While employed by SAAB, on a visit to Gothenburg in 1985/1986, I saw an advertisement for used municipal vehicles in the local newspaper, including a couple of examples of the Kalmar/DAF.  I visited the locale and discussed the vehicles with the manager and we sort of agreed I would bid on one of them.

Sadly, I got called to a major meeting that day that lasted several hours and then my plane reservation for my trip back to the US meant that I could not return to complete the purchase.

This quiz post made me wonder what might have happened if I had completed the purchase.

Probably still sitting in my driveway doing grocery runs.
