Yes, pictured in Germany.
I guess it's those air vents on the bonnet that give the game away...!

As I had the opportunity to meet the owner of this car himself back in 2008 I can now tell you some more details.

It sounds like a fairytale but this car has definitly a very interesting history.

As the current owner told me, the first buyer lived in the Arabian Emirates. After some weeks the Maserati had a breakdown and the owner just left the car in the desert. There it has stayed for years and after a short time it was covered by a sand dune completely.

Then in the early 80s a German tourist dicovered one car front fender in a dune, began to dig and rescued the car.

As the car still had the original licence plates fixed, he started to search for the owner. He managed to indentfy him and visited him. The owner has almost forgotten the car and sold the remnants to the German tourist.

As several sand storms went over the car before it was hidden totally, the whole paint has gone and it was much work to bring it to the road again.

This was around 1981/82 and the new owner decided to change the front end in the style of the Kyalami and Quattroportes of that time.

The owner told me that even Maserati was interested in this new design.

But Bertone held the rights for the original design and denied the new front end for the current Maserati production.

As it wasn´t the best time in the Maserati era, the Khamsin production was stopped completely in 1982.

Simple as that - this was the story of this remarkable Khamsin with a new front end design...
