There is another part of the name still missing though (****** Special) and I'd also like to know what MG engine powers it.

That's the missing bit of the name I was looking for yes, but the engine is much newer than that.

Right engine, wrong car.  I don't think the MGA ever had the 1798 engine so it's actually an MGB engine but I think it's time to call this one solved!
