It almost looks like it has 4-wheel steering...

British?

As far as I can tell from other pictures and various sources, there is no four-wheel steering. And it is not British.

Well, that "quadrifoglio verde" screams out : "Alfa Romeo", so maybe it is based on Alfa components?

No Alfa components. The chassis is from one manufacturer, the engine from another.

The reason for the cloverleaf badge is probably that one of the car's engineers was an Alfa expert.

It's a 1972 Giom 1, and don't ask more, I don't speak that much czech.

Me neither! But you're quite right.

The car was built, like you said, in 1972. It was built by a hillclimb specialist (as far as I understand) called František Němec, with help from an Alfa expert, engineer Ladislav Duboczy. The chassis was from a Škoda 100, and it had a Fiat 1600 cc engine (130 hp).

I give you these three pictures of Mr. Němec's creations (top to bottom GIOM 1, GIOM 4 and GIOM 5). Apart from what I've told you, I can also reveal two things about our friend František: a) he has a thing for recycling numberplates, and b) he apparently thinks he looks good without his shirt.

I think he did a great job if you consider his situation, living in a blocked socialist country with an embargo for any western car technology...

Don't get me wrong, I didn't criticize him for his car-building skills, only for his lack of shirt.

That wasn´t my intention, I´m just wondering how he managed to get all the parts for his creations.

That looks like an early 1970's Giom 1 assembled by František Nemec from Czechoslovakia. It utilized a Fiat 1600 engine and a number of Škoda mechanicals. This particular example seems to be the first in a series of about 5 (?) specials.

If it is (and it certainly looks similar), it's a re-post.

Double Mac gets a point, can someone merge the topics for me?

Might as well add Giom 2 and 3. :D

Despite the fact that those Gioms are great cars regarding the circumstances you shouldn't let Marcello Gandini read this.. (http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g106/pan1968/Gifs/44.gif)

Giom cars were produced five types Giom 3 was made in two pieces from different engines. Mr. Nemec was considering to Giom 6 for GT. These cars were established in Slovakia.

It wasn't a kit car for anyone but was a serious proposal!

GIOM 1, Slovakia

Yes, it's the GIOM 1, but of course it dates from before Slovakia was an independent country so Czechoslovakia would be more accurate.
But wasn't a major Czechoslovakian car maker involved, using one of their engines?  I wonder who that could be, for your point!

Locked for you.

GIOM - Garage 10 Motorists.
The skeleton was built on the crashed - Skoda 1000th
Engines were more - Skoda, Fiat 1600, BMW.
But mainly Fiat 1600 / Fiat 124 / - 96 kW / 8000 rpm.
The car was destroyed in the crash.

Yes, apparently this car started life with a 1.0 Skoda engine, but it was replaced after a couple of years by a Fiat 1.6.
It also spent some time with an electric engine, when it was known as the Elektron!
This is actually a repost so now I've given you your point I'll have to merge it with the original.

Thank´s.
Electric drive is not used in this car. ELECTRON was a magazine for young people, who supported the construction of the car.

I see.
I did read somewhere though that it had an electric motor just for a year or two!
